Nate Bargatze faces plenty of problems â not the least of which involves a horse exploring his home â in the trailer for the forthcoming comedy The Breadwinner.
Sony releases director Eric Appelâs feature in theaters March 13, 2026. Mandy Moore, Colin Jost, Kumail Nanjiani, Will Forte, Zach Cherry, Martin Herlihy and Kate Berlant round out the cast.
The Breadwinner centers on Nate Wilcox (Bargatze), a father of three young daughters. He is left in charge of the brood for an extended stretch when wife Katie (Moore) lands a coveted business deal after an appearance on Shark Tank.
âIâm the top salesman at the dealership,â Bargatze boasts in the trailer. âI think I can handle a month alone with the girls. You act like Iâm gonna blow the house up.â
Later, he admits, âShe makes it look so easy, but itâs so hard.â And sure enough, an incident with that horse suggests that the patriarch may be in over his head.
Appel (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story) helmed the movie from a script that Bargatze co-wrote with Dan Lagana. Bargatze, Lagana and Jeremy Latcham serve as producers.
Bargatze is one of the worldâs top-selling stand-up comedians and makes his feature film debut with The Breadwinner. This marks his first major project since hosting the Emmy Awards ceremony in September.
For The Hollywood Reporterâs cover story on Bargatze that published ahead of the Emmys, TriStar Pictures president Nicole Brown discussed The Breadwinnerâs appeal for the Sony label.
âThe idea of his first film being so personal and authentic to him and his comedy felt like the perfect foray, and heâd really identified a space,â she said. âHe was like, âI want to be able to watch a film with my whole family. We can go watch animation now, but thereâs nothing with real people in it.'â
